Luke 19: 11-27
While they were listening to this, he went on to tell them a parable, because he was near Jerusalem and the people thought that the kingdom of God was going to appear at once. He said: "A man of noble birth went to a distant country to have himself appointed king and then to return. So he called ten of his servants and gave them then minas. 'Put this money to work,' he said, 'until I come back.' "But his subjects hated him and sent a delegation after him to say, 'We don't want this man to be our King.' "He was made king, however, and returned home. Then he sent for the servants to whom he had given money, in order to find out what they had gained with it. "The first one came and said, 'Sir, your mina has earned ten more.' "'Well done, my good servant!' his master replied. 'Because you have been trustworthy in a very small matter, take charge of ten cities.' "The second one came and said, 'Sir, your mina has earned five more.' "His master answered, 'You take charge of five cities.' "Then another servant came and said, 'Sir, here is your mina; I have kept it laid away in a piece of cloth. I was afraid of you, because you are a hard man. You take out what you did not put in and reap what you did not sow.' "His master replied, 'I will judge you by your own words, you wicked servant! You knew, did you, that I am a hard man, taking out what I did not put in, and reaping what I did not sow? Why then didn't you put my money on deposit, so that when I came back, I could have collected it with interest?' "Then he said to those standing by, 'Take his mina away from him and give it to the one who has ten minas.' "'Sir,' they said, 'he already has ten!' "He replied, 'I tell you that to everyone who has, more will be given, but as for the one who has nothing, even what he has will be taken away. But those enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them - bring them here and kill them in front of me.'"
1. to learn the true meaning of HOPE through the analogy of Heaven

1. to learn the true meaning of HOPE through the analogy of Heaven
- disciples' misunderstanding: they thought that God's world is coming soon. The correct thought should be, to have mental preparation for God's arrival
- there's opposing voices: "i don't want that person to be King of ours." The current world does not admit God's existence, hence influencing us, Christians. Some of these opposing voices actually consists of Christians.
- verse 12-15: it means that now, is the waiting period for the King to come back.
- in the end: The King will be back. Back to praise(reward) or to judge(punish). Back to check for our reapings. In fact, regardless of the amount, so long as there's profits, there will be praises. And the rewards that God gives us is much higher than profits that we earn. God, punish the one who did not reap anything because his mouth is full of complains, and he think of God as one who is mean and petty. In this context, reapings actually means - our service for God, the role of ours(which is to spread His Words)
2. Hope and Determination/Endurance
- there's two kind of servant, the difference in their waiting attitude.
- one who is the kind one: fulfilling the Master's wishes.
- he does not think of God as a critic and the petty one. God is a loving and caring Father.
- the other who is the mean one: buried God's wishes away
- God is our basis of Hope
3. Reflections
- How should keep this HOPE in me?
There's ups and downs in our life which greatly affects our faith.
- What kind of stage am I in during this waiting period?
- How should i fulfill my Master's wishes?
- If God comes back tomorrow... ...
- What did God give you? You may be weathy - how can you use this money in God's grace? Donation? You're talented - you can always work for God. You're aged. So? You're matured and you experience lots - you can educate the younger generation, having leadership roles in church.
In conclusion, we should
- finish the business and not be influenced
- see the fact that "Everything comes from God. The good of God."
- Be careful of our speech. He will come back one day. Our speech should be sincere!
- No matter what, hold on to our faith and believe that Jesus will be back just as he promised. It should not be changed. It's not easy, we admit. It requires strong faith and great determination. We ought to pray for this, so that we may hold on.
- Use our gifts well, in God's grace
- Reap and Wait
